A Fill In

So competition was good, Radar got first, and qualified for nationals. My solo got second in score points, but didn't score well enough to be in the top three scores, so I didn't officially place, and I'm not qualified for nationals.
My Thanksgiving was good, nice and quiet, with lots of yummy food and watching TV.
Tonight I went down to the electric boat parade and fireworks show in Jacksonville. Totally fun. I think I'm starting to get into the Holiday Spirit now.

And I Thought I Was Ready To Faint Before....

HAH! I thought I was ready to faint before. 6 days from now I'm going to be onstage at competition doing my solo.
That's nothing to worry about.
Right?
Uh.
Yeah, right. Nothing at all to worry about.
Yikes.

Competition *faints*

Competition is just over a week away. I'm dead. I'm so dead. I'm panicking like crazy. I'm terrfied my dances won't be ready.
Okay, breathe, we can do this. It'll work out.
On a happier note, life at ballet is going well. My technique and knowledge is getting dramatically better.
And now I'm gonna go, cuz I've got nothing else to say.

UGH Insanity!

Sheesh, so somewhere between dance, school, and life, I'm actually succeeding in posting on my blog. It's a miracle! Lol
Life's pretty good, but time is pretty much never on my side. I finish school just in time to get ready for dance pretty much every day.
Down time is zip+zero+zilch.
Competition is like 6 weeks away, I'm going to Orlando with my parents in two weeks, and I'm working my backside off trying to keep up with school.
Go figure. All my favorite bands have released albums at the same time. Paramore, Muse, Green Day, they've all recently released CDs. But, of course, I can't afford to buy all of them.
Well, I think that's all I can think of..

Not Much To Say...

Well I don't have much to say today really, but I'm a terrible blogger, and I don't want to go months without writing again (BAD Kristen).
I got my learner's permit today YAYY!!! The picture isn't as bad as I expected, but it's not really good either. Still though, I have my picture ID now, and I can start learning to drive, and stuff like that... Plus the permit is totally cool looking.
Dance is going well at FBTS. I already feel like I've made a ton of progress. I also feel like my technique is getting way stronger. I'd like to be on pointe by Halloween (Christmas at the latest), and at a class C level by the start of the next dance year (end of next August). Oh yeah, I don't think I mentioned this. I have extra incentive to get up the dance class levels. There's cute boys in the levels above me :D.
School is going fairly well. Some of the subjects are fun and enjoyable, and some really not so much.
Anyhow, this is my 60th posting. Not that it's really a big deal, but hey, thought I'd mention it. It's a pretty big number for a blog that's not even a year old. Okay, I lied. It's a pathetic number. But I'm a terrible blogger, and I do the best I can.

Great, Now I Feel Guilty...

Okay, I feel bad now, I haven't posted in what, months? Yeesh. Okay, here's a comprehensive summary of what my life has been like.
I had my auditions at the Florida Ballet Training School (from here out referenced at merely FBTS, okay?). Anyhow, the Artistic Director (and I think founder) Laurie Byrd auditioned me... And she said that I was behind where I should be, but that she was amazed at how much I knew from my limited time taking ballet. So, I got in. I'm dancing with 8 and 9 year old girls, and I started on Monday the 31st. I'm going to ballet Mondays and Tuesdays, and I'm supposed to start pre pointe on Fridays, starting tomorrow.
I'm loving the ballet. I'm a little nervous about the pre pointe.
I'm only the second girl at FBTS to be accepted when she's in my below level situation. Mrs. Byrd took a big interest in her training, and she has taken one in mine too. It's a little scary really. My uniform for FBTS makes me look like a big piece of cotton candy. Pink leotard. Pink tights. Pink shoes. I'm not kidding.
I'm taking hip hop and tap at Bean School of Dance (to be known as BSD okay?). For competition I'm probably doing a jazz solo, and hip hop line, and a tap group number.
In school I'm taking:
French 1
English 2
Algebra 2
Biology
Biology Lab
World History
I'm actually kind of enjoying school. Shocking I know!

The Date For the Audition is Set!

Okay, it's official, the Florida Ballet Training School is holding their auditions on August 12th at 4 PM, and I. AM. ON. THE. LIST!!! WOOOOOOHHHOOOO!!!
*nerves nerves nerves* I'm really excited, and more than a little stressed!

Wednesday, July 29, 2009

Okay, Okay, Kristen, Breathe... It's Nothing to Stress About...

OMG!
My friend Triston has been taking a summer intensive (like 8+ hours of non stop dancing) at the the Florida Ballet's training school. Apparently, they really like him and have asked him to come audition for a scholarship to the training school this fall. Well, his mom dropped my name, and.... They want me to come audition! My mom got the confirmation call today! IIIIEEEEEEE!!!
I absolutely love to dance, and the Florida Ballet's training school is the best ballet school in the state, so yeah, that definitely makes me happy. The Florida Ballet is MAJORLY hard to get into, and has like a 100% acceptance rate into colleges and professional dance companies... So yeah, this is a ENORMOUSLY big deal for me... This could very well kick off my career if I get in....
*hyperventilates*
Okay, I'm fine, just stressing... No worries... ARE YOU KIDDING!?! Yeah, I'm a little nervous... lol

I SAW HP6!

So, today I went to go see Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince (which is the 6th book/movie btw), with my mom, a couple of friends, and their mom. Honestly, I was rather disappointed. I mean, it was really good, and some of the scenes were spectacular, but it left a LOT of stuff out! A LOT of REALLY IMPORTANT stuff.... They also added some scenes that weren't in the book, and some of them were really good, but I think they should have spent more time explaining pieces of the book for movie(s) number seven (they're making 7 into 2, in case you weren't already aware), otherwise the next movie is gonna have NO coherant plot, and NO basis on the books. It's a good thing that they're making it into two movies, because they've got a LOT of explaining to do.
Now, on the other hand, my friend's mom said that there wasn't enough action in the movie. Umm, okay, right, Harry Potter isn't just about action. Harry Potter doesn't have enough action for you? Go into the theater next door and watch Transformers, okay? You want fantasy, and magic, and kicking the route of all evil's butt? Watch Harry Potter.
Granted, I'm still FURIOUS that they only rated this PG, meaning that they left a lot (of action, suspense, cursing, and making out) out of the movie. I mean the 5th one was PG-13, and if the movie had stayed on the story line of the book, it would have been too. Sorry, I'm a Potterhead big time, and I don't like people messing with my Harry Potter.
I am DEFINITELY not telling you not to watch this movie, you totally should. It is awesome. However, I think that they could have done a better job with it if they had made it a little longer, focused on some of the more key points, and rated it PG-13.

Nooo :(

Nooo! It's official, one of my favorite teachers, Mrs. Michelle, is leaving my dance school to move to Fort Meyers with her husband, and dance partner Shay. I'm sad, because now the ballet teacher postition is up in the air, so I don't know who I'll have when the dance year starts next month. Tomorrow's my last day with Mrs. Michelle. *cries* I'll be lucky to keep my eyes dry...

All The Things A Ballerina Has To Think About

Okay, so here's a list of the things a ballerina has to think about WHILE she's dancing...

1. Arms! Are the round enough, straight enough, are they high enough, or low enough, are the elbows rounded and not pointy, are my fingers adjusted right...
2. Feet. Feet. Feet. Am I turned out, are my toes pointed, are my legs straight enough or bent enough, is my leg high enough, are my feet angled right..
3. Spotting. When you turn, you have to keep your eyes fixed on one spot, so your head has to whip around faster than your turn. Not easy, and extremely important.
4. Posture. The most important part of dance. Your pelvis needs to be tucked under your body, no slanting, it has to be in a straight line with your spine, as does your neck. You have to make your spine as straight as possible, and keep it that way, no matter what you do. Your hips can't move. Your neck has to stay up, unless it dips as part of the choreography.
5. The counting. You have to count to stay with the other dancers.
6 The music. You have to know how the music is, so you know where you are supposed to do certain steps.

See, totally crazy. You have to remember all of that, and I'm sure I've forgotten something...

Soooo Sore!

Okay, so I LOVE my new ballet teacher! She's really professional, and has studied literally every kind of ballet there is. Here's the thing though.
I showed up to ballet on time, but no one else did. So, for the first 15 minutes of my 75 minute class, I got a private lesson. Which was actually great because I got the teacher's undivided attention, so we got to work on my positions and stuff. Then this really nice, but not really hard working girl came in, so then it was still a really small class, which was still nice. But 30 minutes into class 2 of the other girls came in, which made the class not as fun, but still really small. The only problem is that I am Soooo Sore from all the work I did... My body isn't used to all the contorting. Plus, do you have any idea how much Ballerinas have to think about when they're dancing?
The other 3 girls never bothered to show up.
I actually got a lot of complements from both my school owner and my new ballet teacher.
The dance school owner was commenting on how serious I am, and how talented, and well behaved I am. :)
My ballet teacher commented on how great my memory and tecnique is. Her only comment was that my footwork is a little bit messy. She told me that if I work on that, I'll be really good. So, in that case, I will be working especially hard on my footwork! :)

Okay, A Few Things I Should Probably Mention About Myself

Right, so I haven't exactly talked much about myself. First of all, I live for music and dance. I've been singing since I could talk (actually since before I could talk, but they don't really count baby language as lyrics XD). I write my own songs, and it's usually kind of a pop/rock kind of genre, there's a lot of Paramore and Avril Lavigne esqe stuff. Most of my songs are clean, but some of the angrier ones are a little bit more adult. I write from my own experiences, and my songbook is like a sort of diary, my lyrics contain my thoughts, and emotions, they are who I am truely, not just the persona that everyone sees. I live up to my Austrian heritage in that I sing everywhere! I sing along to the music in dance class. I have a special waterproof dock that I put my ipod on and listen to in the shower, meaning that I'm singing along to music while showering... I sing in the car. I sing while I write. I sing pretty much anytime the mood strikes.
I also love acting. When I was little I had a vivid imagination, and now I can use that imagination to become what I am acting like. I don't just mimic the person, I actually imagine that I am that person and think like them, move like them, everything.
I think I've pretty much established my love of dance. So I don't really need to elaborate on that. I've made it pretty clear how big a part of my life dance is.
I have a huge dream for the future. I want to be famous. I want to be a triple threat, become an actress, get a record deal, dance and choreograph... You get the idea... Believe me, I know how hard it's going to be to accomplish my dream. I'll have to contend with very talented people, huge egos, stubborn directors and casting agents, and most importantly not forget who I am on the way. That will be my biggest challenge. I've heard the stories about the girls who went to Hollywood and never came home, or the ones who were so desperate to succeed that they lost their health, their individuality, everything...
It's what I want though, more than anything, to succeed in... Failure is not an option.

Why I Dance... (more sentimentalness, sorry!)

So I was thinking the other day about why I dance. Some people dance because they think they're good, or because it's an interesting hobby, or even because their friends dance, and they treat it as social time. For me, none of those reasons even remotely apply. In fact, sometimes it bothers me; the way everyone seems to treat dance as a mere hobby, or nothing important.
I dance because of the way it makes me feel. I feel like I'm flying. Like I'm a fish in the water. Like I'm in my element. When I dance, everything wrong seems to vanish. All that exists is me, the music, and the beats. It just feels right. I can't explain it.
It really doesn't matter to me what kind of dance it is, either. It doesn't matter if I'm sweating to the beats in hip hop class, pounding it out in tap shoes, or floating on my toes in ballet. Bob Fosse style jazz is one of my favorites though. I love getting into character and twisting myself into all the odd little pigeon toed stances.
I can't explain why or how dance has this effect on me. All I know is that it will always be a part of my life. I will always dance. I will always love it. And nothing will ever take me away from it. Nothing can. Never. Ever.

And I realllyyyyyyy wanted to get some new songs on my ipod before we left.... GRR!
Okay, sorry, had to get it out of my system.

Sentimental Thoughts...

So, I was just thinking today about how time changes things. I think it started when my mom opened her wallet in the grocery store, and out fell the little plastic holder with the pictures of me growing up in them (everything from my baby picture, to my last Karate portrait), and my dad picks it up to hand to her, and goes all sarcastically "Who IS that chubby little kid?"... And okay, I was a little chubby cheeked when I was little, and my cheeks are still a little chipmunky (wooo new word!), but I still managed to snap at my dad with a "Haha, isn't that hysterical?" and a hug.
But I was thinking about all the changes that go along with growing up. All the moves my family has made, and the friends that I've made, and the ones who I've lost. The people I know who have died, and the ones who have been born, and I've gotten to watch as they grow up.
Sorry, being sentimental, but I was thinking about my future a lot... I got more complements on my dancing today...

*Sobs* Recital is Over.

Okay, so Friday and Saturday were my recitals. Opening night was crazy and fun! I had 6 numbers in the recital, and at one point, I only had 3 numbers in between Jazz and performing group. It was sooo incredibly difficult, but totally worth it.
Saturday night was definitely an awesome night. I was totally shocked to get an award for being a teacher assistant (the trophy's photo is at left). It's like 6 inches tall, and kinda heavy, and I nearly dropped it on my foot on stage. After the trophy ceremony, everyone in the performing group ran over to give the 84 year old owner of my dance school a big, sweaty, group hug. Totally fun. My jazz teacher also gave me a little lavendar rose. (awwwh)

On the not so fun side, I almost fell during performing group's dance "FAME". I had four counts to get all the way around the stage behind the curtain, between the time I come off, and the time my cue is to come back on. I tripped over a prop one of the other classes had left behind the curtain. There's going to be a pretty noticeable movement behind the curtain, and hopefully none of the stage mics picked up my "OW!".

On the ego boosting side, some of the girls and their family's feel threatened (evidently) by me. They started trying to bust my self-esteem by talking about my hair, and my costumes, and how inappropriate it looks when I melt into a split during "All That Jazz". Tough luck there! Both my parents loved the choreography. Not to mention the fact that "All That Jazz" is Bob Fosse style choreography, so the way my hair, costumes, and split go is all perfectly exceptable.

Also on the ego boosting side, was one of my parents boating friends. His daughter dances at my school too, so he got to see all my numbers. He also used to work with a lot of Theater, Opera, and Dance Companies. He complimented me on opening night, and came by the boat yesterday morning to compliment me on my dancing. While he was here, he also told my parents that I have a lot of natural talent, and that by no means should I stop dancing, because I have the talent and attitude to go really far. All I can say is OMG YAYYY!

I Don't Like Hospitals :(

Okay, so yesterday I was feeling really naseus and in a lot of pain. My mom called the doctor, and she said that I had all the symptoms of appendicitis, and to take me to the hospital. My mom shoved me in the car and drove me to the ER. The nurses there didn't even wait to put me in a hospital gown, and jam an IV port into my arm (IT HURTS!!!! I REALLY HATE needles). They ran a couple different blood and urine tests (lovely isn't it?), and decided I had an unknown abdominal cist, and not to worry, that it wasn't appendicitus. So I now have to take 400 mg of Ibuprofen 3 times a day, not do anything overly strenuous (I still went to hip hop rehearsals today though), and if the pain gets worse, spreads, or I start to get swelling to go back.
My friends' mom is a nurse, and she thinks they should have done an Ultrasound, but they didn't so we shall see. I'm sore, but fine other than that...

I Gots and Award! ME!

So like, at teen Court on Tuesday, which I've only been to like 3 times I got an award! Yayy me!

Omg, It's actually sunny today!

OMG! *HAPPY DANCES* YAYY!

Okay, so today I was at dance, and like one of my teachers was trying to figure out her summer schedule so that she can start working on out competition routines... She asked me to do a Jazz solo, and when I said that I would, she goes "Well, we need a prop... You're nice and brave, we'll do a chair.."
So, there we go, my life may possibly be falling into place... Now to work out my guy issues...

*sighs* I Can't Win At Everything I Guess.

So, I get to go to prom, but I also miss my Musical Theater Pictures. You know, if I hadn't already promised the guy I would go, I'd just back out... Dance always beats everything. But, since I did promise, and I don't want to upset him, I'm kinda stuck.
This is gonna be complicated..
Why is nothing simple??

I've Had Such A Good Day :)

Okay, so I bought my dress today, and it's really pretty, but my mom and I are going to alter it a little. I love it, know I just need shoes, jewelry, a purse, and the stuff I'm altering it with...

Also, I was at teen court today, and Mr. Charles, the guy in charge of the Jurors (like me), and the Attornies (like Triston) pulled me aside before the trials started. Below is a brief transcript of our conversation.

Mr. Charles: "Kristen, may I talk to you for a second."
Me: "Yes, Sir?"
Mr. Charles: "I was wondering if you would be interested in joining our attornies."
Me: "I'd like to consider it."
Mr. Charles: "When will you know?"
Me: "Umm, Next trial?"
Mr. Charles: "Very well, that's the 19th of this month, and then I'd like to start breaking you in as one of our attornies."
Me: "Yes, sir!"
Mr. Charles: "I've heard very good things about you, young lady, and I want to see how you measure up."
Me: "Thank you sir."

I'm nervous and excited, that was really high praise indeed.

Also, Matt left me flowers today while I was at court (after he caught up with me while I was getting ready before Triston picked me up). They're really pretty yellow Tiger Lillies, planted in a little pot.

I Think I Found It...

Okay, I think I found my prom dress... My mom and I are going to buy it tomorrow. I'm really excited, it's pretty!

Sunday, May 3, 2009

That worked surprisingly well...

Well, I"m shocked, Matt came over and asked to talk to my parents, because they had some questions for him. He actually gave them all the information they asked for and then some... And, he wasn't petrified by my 6 Foot 5 Inch father...

Today's Shrimp Fest Dance...

Okay, so today I did my Shrimp Festival dance. I did my ballet and my hip hop. The ballet was AWFUL!!! We missed a few cues, and it screwed up the majority of the dance. Hip hop went awesome... We only had a few little accidents (I dropped my cane, Savannah tripped during a jump, etc), but it was awesome other than that...
And I'm freaking out... Guys do that to me.

Friday, May 1, 2009

hmm... Prom & Me, a lowly Freshman?

Okay, so I was out late last night, because it's Shrimp Festival weekend here in Fernandina... and what happened? I tripped over a note that someone had propped up on one of our lockers that's built in the deck of the boat. The note was from this guy I know, (he's a Junior), and in it he asked me to go to the Yulee High School Prom with him. Of course, I called him, and went to his voicemail, so I still don't know when the prom is, and I need to get a dress, and there's this little issue of having tons of stuff to do this month...
UGH!...
But still, I think it's pretty awesome to get asked to prom by a Junior when you're just a Freshman :)

*gasps!* Could I really do it??....

Okay, so I absolutely adore my dance studio... But (awwh come on you absolutely had to know the "but" was coming!).... I want to be a serious dancer, not just a fun dancer, or a teacher at some back country studio (no offense anybody (: ).... So I was think about switching schools... My friend Triston (yes the same Triston who nearly bruised my rib) goes to this awesome school called Bolero's and I want to change to that school... Look for yourself..

Triston... You better run boy....

okay, so yesterday I was at the homeschool park day (we get stuck outside while our mom's sit and talk), and I was on a swing set, and getting some momentum, and my friend Grant was on the swing next to me, just sitting and talking... Well, I have this other guy friend Triston, and he and Grant don't get along... So I guess Triston got mad at me for talking to Grant instead of him, and so he comes over and starts pushing Grant's swing sideways.... Well, Grant and I forsaw and accident and yelled at him to stop... Triston didn't, and Grants swing went behind mine at the same moment I came down.... I think I bruised a rib.... Triston is soooooo dead!

OMG, I Totally Spazed!

Okay, so like I got a couple of Webkinz when i was like 12 or 13, and I played with them non stop, but then not too long ago, I sorta stopped, and today I just logged back in, and I haven't been on since before Christmas! Yeesh! lol

Impossible To Sleep...

Oh wow, I was up from 3 AM, until 7 AM, it was impossible to sleep for some reason, no matter what I did, so I was exhausted today....

About Yesterday's Performing Class

Okay, so yesterday's class wasn't too bad... We talked about next year's competition, ran through our routines a few times, and just had fun, since half the class wasn't there... It was pretty good all in all though...

Back To Life (finally)

So tonight I'm starting back at dance after a week's vacation. My teacher Mrs. Lenna, is gonna freak... We have like 4 weeks until recital, and all our performing company rountines look like crap, and barely any of us have gone in a few weeks, AND some of the girls have spring break this week so they won't be here.... Plus I haven't stretched thoroughly in like a week.... I'm excited though, I've missed dancing.

BEST SONG EVER (as of right this second: April 12th)

Okay, so like my favorite song changes daily, but today I'm obsessed with My Immortal by Evanescence.... So awesommee!!! lol

Happy Easter!

Okay, so I'm really not that religious.... Well, that was an exaggeration, I'm not the least bit religious. I'm an agnostic (get a dictionary people!), but that doesn't mean I can't still wish everyone a Happy Easter! In my mind Easter is the day when I get to worship chocolate bunnies *evil laugh*! :) hahaha...
Happy Easter, Love ya'll!

I'm Such a Genius :)

Haha, so I'm currently IMing one of my BFFs, and she looks freakishly like Ginny Weasley from Harry Potter, and we decided that when Harry Potter World opens next year, we're gonna dress up as Hermione and Ginny and have all sorts of little prop things and stuff and it's gonna be awesome... ^^

OH!

Okay, so it just dawned on me that I haven't been updating ya'll on my life all that much... So here we go...

I withdrew from karate....
1. because money is really tight, and karate was getting ridiculously expensive...
2. because I wanted to get serious about dance and honestly, spending 3 days a week cleaning my karate school and teaching little kids how to speak Korean really wasn't helping all that much...
3. Because as a first degree I'm supposed to be broadening my horizons, and that means that I should be out exploring the world and figuring out who I am. Plus, if I really start to miss karate and can start at a different school and get another black belt in a different martial art.

My dance classes are getting crazy. (Meaning that I have 6-7 number in this years recital)
In ballet we're doing a dance to Ave Maria, and our costumes are really REALLY odd. They're like purple, with a turquose and green details, like our Tutus (which end about 3 inches above me knees, not what I would have picked at all) are 7 layers of purple tule, with 2 layers of green tule underneath, and the top piece of the costume is like a purple cowl neck halter top with a turquoise/green cami leotard underneath, and of course, my pink canvas ballet shoes...
In jazz we're doing 3 different sections of 1920s jazz (an instrumental number from Chicago, a number from the movie Fosse, and a snippet of All That Jazz)... I'm wearing a super tight, awesome sparkly unitard.... It's these glittery, black and silver pinstripe pants, with a crushed black velvet cami top, and a big rhinestone studded black pleather belt, lots of red jewelry, possibly involving a red feather boa, and black jazz shoes....
In my hip hop class we're doing Radar by Britney Spears.... We're wearing black converse, laced with red, red and black plaid shorts, black dancewear knee pads (They're like knee braces, but with padding), a black rhinestone studded shirt that says HIP HOP, and we're using red wooden canes as a prop. The jewelry is up to the students (meaning I'm wearing hoop earrings, like I do every year)...I'm gonna due something crazy with my hair, like two really high pigtails or something XD....
In the musical theater class I help teach, we're doing Annie Get Your Gun, and the class I'm working with is doing Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better... The teacher has asked me to dress up like a cowboy, because we didn't have enough real guys to make it work, so i'm wearing brown, knee high suede boots with fringe on the sides, jeans, a black cowboy hat, and black vest, a white button up long sleeved shirt, and a big belt... (I'm probably going to pull my hair up in a bun so that it's not quite as obvious that i'm a girl)
In my performing company class we're doing two numbers. A jazz one, Fame, from the movie Fame, the costume involving super short black spandex bike shorts, black leg warmers, a bright, ripped up t-shirt, and black jazz shoes. (hair is to be done as we wish, most of us are doing high side ponytails).... The other one is a Hip hop number, to the song DJ (no clue who it's by though), involving a really crazy bright spandex shirt, black bottoms in the style our teacher assigned, hair in the style our teacher assigned, and converse laced in the same color as our shirt....

I think that's pretty much it, except for the fact that I have been diagnosed with a latex allergy, and my dad's nut allergy, wonderful isn't it? lol

Why on Earth....

So yeah, I was wondering.... WHY ON EARTH are guys such a pain in the backside? hmm? Any thoughts on this concept? Seriously though, I swear, guys are like really confusing, and irritating, and ARGH! There's a reason I'm single again, and that would be it... lol....
That was just another example of Kristen's enlightenment....

*SCREAMS* OMG I CAN'T WAIT

OMG so like yeah, I totally can't wait for Harry Potter World, my parents are actually thinking of *gasps!*not getting Disney passes! *double gasps* getting 2 years worth of Universal season passes instead, when they have a Florida resident's deal.. That way we have them when Harry Potter World opens next year... But OMG, i was excited about Harry Potter World, and then my friend's older sister Megan (a fellow Potterhead) gave me the web site with the info and now I'm RIDICULOUSLY excited! I'm taking the poll thingies every day and I'm like YAYYY!! lol. Anyhowww...
I think it's kinda shocking that I've lived in Florida since I was 8, and not once have I been to Universal, with the exception of eating at City Walk... So I'm kind of excited about going, although I have been a Disney girl for like ever!

Ohhhh brother.... I'm venting...

okay, so like Wal Mart had to go and put in an entire Twilight section when i'm BROKE didn't they? That's great, really great... and it's like been raining non-stop... annddd.... my best friend won't speak to me.... annddd... I stayed out at a Teen Party at the Rec Center on Friday with some of my dance friends... and i was home long before curfew... and i still didn't fall asleep until like 2 in the morning... AND it's spring break and i'm not taking a vacation.....
Okay, I feel better now...

My Future Plans

So, I am a very ambitious person, and that means I have a LOT of big dreams.
Obviously I want to finish high school. After that, I think I want a Disney Internship... Then it's off to college, where, I do not know. I'm also trying to figure out whether to major in Performing Arts or Animal Sciences. I was thinking a double major, but idk how that would work. I want to be a famous actress/dancer/singer/songwriter... and I want horses and dogs... so irdk...

In Loving Memory....

A friend and fellow dancer passed away last night at around 6:50. Her name was Kyla. Last year she was diagnosed with an ovarian cancer tumor, and just before Christmas the doctors declared her cancer free and sent her home... Well, in late January she was feeling really sick and went to the doctor. She had a new tumor. It seemed pretty treatable and so this past February she went in for surgery. They found a new tumor growing while they were taking out the old one. They couldn't treat this one. Kyla was diagnosed as terminal.
It's really hard because I used to take class with her and her sister, and I have been teaching her little brother in karate for the past year. Kyla was always bright, and cheerful, even in the face of death. We always talked about books, music, dance, movies, whatever we could, while she sat and did craft projects. She was a one-of-a-kind girl, and she will be greatly missed. Please keep her loved ones in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Sword!

Tomorrow I get a Samurai sword! I'm really excited because I worked my butt off to get it, and tomorrow I get to stand up in front of a whole bunch of people and take my sword, and talk about how I got it.

You earn your sword after you complete the six tasks. The six tasks are as follows:

1. Respect= 50 acts of courtesy, kindness, and respect
2. Teamwork= 50 acts of home help (aka chores)
3. Perseverance= 1,000 repetitions of a kicking combination
4. Self-Discipline= Not eating processed foods for one week. (IMPOSSIBLE)
5. Mentoring= Teaching 10 classes
6. Knowledge= Writing 10 letters and 2 book reports

For each task you earn a patch, and when you get all six you are eligable to get your sword... I can't wait!

OOOOO IT HURTS!

Ok, so today I had a board break at karate, and it seemed like it was going to be pretty easy... I'd practiced a few times (but not as much as I would have like), and I knew all of my techniques well.. but it didn't go too well...

I had trouble breaking almost all of the boards (although i can blame my holder on one of those, he NEVER holds right), and I ended up slicing open the top of my foot. It HURTS!!! But, I know what I need to fix for next time, so I can work on that...

How insane would I be...

To show up to karate in a leotard? Because the thought has crossed my mind....

First Degree!

So, on February 7th I got my First Degree Black Belt, and it was both exhausting and utterly thrilling! I got to the Main School in Jacksonville at 8:30, stretched in the 40 degree room (WHY does Grandmaster Pak not believe in heat and air conditioning?), and started at 9. For the next few hours we did all 13 forms, sparred (everything from 1 on 1 to 6 on 1), and ate a tradional Korean meal (YUMMMM!). I also learned that Ginseng tea and I do NOT get along... It makes me really hyper! At 5 that night, our families came and watched us recieve our belts in this really LONG ceremony. I left and went out to eat with my friend Jordan at around 9. It was sooo exhausting, but sooo incredibly worth it!

My Portfolio

Fish Drawing: I used many different drawing tools, and nothing else in this drawing. I chose heavier lines for the details such as the gills to really make the bright yellow fish pop out at you. I chose the drawing because it adds variety to my portfolio, and it has a lot of eye appeal.

Cloud Photo: I didn't edit this photo at all. I intended to show people how beautiful simple parts of nature can be. The reasons I chose this piece are that I think it's really pretty and and shows my photography skills well.

Me and Dance Double Exposure: I used crop, erase, layers, opacity, cut, and paste in this project. I intended to show one of the things I live for with my head shot to show harmony between the two. The bottom layer is a picture of a ballerina in mid-leap and the upper layer is a photo of me. I chose this project because I think it is a good representation of my understanding of balance and layers.

Filtered Heads: I used crop, erase, cut, paste, layers, and a wide array of filters. The theme is kind of wild and random, but put together at the same time. Each head in the project is a new layer on top of the white background. I chose this piece for its uniqueness and eye appeal.

Man-Eating Flower: I used crop, erase, cut, paste, and layers in this piece. This piece is really intended just to make people laugh. The bottom layer is a flower and the top layer is a photo of a cat. I think this project is really fun and shows a good focus on the main point.

Marigolds: I used crop on this photo. I was intending to show the simplistic beauty of nature I like this piece because of it's simplicity and brightness.

Sea Lion: I cropped some of the surrounding area. I love how majestic he is and the steam swirling on the right adds a very mystical feel. I chose this piece because I love how it is composed and focused.

Marina Sunset: I used crop to narrow the focus a little in this photo. The mood I intended was peace and relaxation. I chose this shot because I love the color balance and the way the dusky pink brushes the clouds and the water.

Up The Mast: I cropped this photo to adjust the focus. The intended mood was really just awe. I chose this photo because of its stark contrast to the other, colorful, natural shots in my portfolio. This one is a little harsher and less glamorous.

Astronaut Me: I used crop, erase, cut, paste, and layers in the composite. I chose this graphic because it shows good balance and alignment.
